Michael Graves designed this coffee maker for Alessi in 1988, as a development to his famous Bird Kettle! He drew inspiration from a method of making coffee that was very popular in Northern Europe & America, but actually originated in Italy in the 1920's: The Press Filter. It is composed of a stainless steel outer frame with a polyamide handle and the inside container in heat resistant glass. It makes coffee with a particular taste, different not only from espresso and percolator methods but also from the paper filter method and the neapolitan style. It's main feature is the opportunity of being able to choose the quantities of ground coffee and boiling water and consequently the volume and strength of the coffee obtained.

And....did you know...... this type of Press Filter is also great for making TEA!!! Earl Grey, Herbal or Fruit Teas and even PG Tips! Make any sort of tea by placing the loose tea leaves in the glass container and pour on boiling water and leave to brew for a couple of minutes before pressing down the filter plunger. In the same way that you can vary the strength of your coffee - you can choose to make your tea weak or strong.

Available in two sizes : Small 3 cup and Large 8 cup - But remember those are small Demitasse cups, not Big Mugs! And without trying to sound too much like a sales person here - for the difference in price Only £18 you would be best buying the larger version as you do not always have to fill it full - yet you have the optional capacity to do so if you need more coffee for visitors.

You can now chose from the original BLUE handled version aliong with the new BLACK handled version.
