Alessi had already decided that Graves should design them a kettle that had real purpose - whose body was formed in such a way that it could hold a large volume of water at its base, nearest the flame. The handle was not to extend over the pot's side, so it would not be exposed to the direct heat of the cooking surface. It was only after these functional requirements were solved that the character of the kettle was thought about. The 9093 Alessi Hob Kettle with Bird continues to go from strength to strength. Michaels Graves' highly personal and easy to recognise formal style blends influences from various sources: the European tradition, Art Deco, American POP, with flashes of pre-Colombian culture.
