Bookworm Bookshelf

Ron Arad's Bookworm by Kartell is a shelving revolution. A colourful, transparent, flexible bookcase with which you can express a little personal creativity, when deciding on how to figuratively shape and fix the shelf to the wall. Many configurations are possible, the more curvaceous the shape the stronger the shelf will be and therefore the more weight the shelf can take. It is said that on average your shelf will be able to hold 10Kg for every bookend supports that it has, the bookends are spaced 50cm apart. Therefore, the smallest shelf at 3.2 metres has 7 bookends can hold about 70kgs. Not quite a full set of Encyclopedia Britannica - so don't get carried away pilling your shelves with too much - and be aware that these weights can only be sustained if you have adequate fixing to the wall. If you are intending to fix this shelf to plaster board - please use cavity wall fixings - otherwise your shelf will not stay up very long.

Please also note that although the extrusion used to create this shelf is flexible - it does have its limitations - it cannot create very tight curves and cannot be bent into right angles - think organic sinuous shapes when designing your shelf and you can't really go wrong!

We also have the smaller LOVELY RITA shelf available in 4 colours ( shown bottom right - 2 units joined together ) It is a pre-formed squiggle that is just hung on two wall fixings, you can put it at an angle or upside down, so it is much simpler than Book Worm Shelf to install, but will only take light weights.
