Designed in the early 1930's, the espresso maker is the most significant invention amongst the various coffee making methods.

Characterised by quick preparation, concentrated volume and the intense aroma and flavor of the coffee produced by passing water vertically upwards through the coffee grounds. La Cupola was designed for Alessi by Aldo Rossi in 1985. This expresso maker is made of cast aluminium with a polyamide handle. The boiler has a thick flanged aluminium base to guarantee even heat distribution and shield the body from the flame or heat source.

Aluminium is an excellent conductor of heat and in gastronomic terms gives a characteristic flavor to espresso made in La Cupola. It has a fuller and more rounded flavor than coffee made with a stainless steel coffee maker. However aluminium is much more susceptable to staining and discolouration than stainless steel, so the item will take on an aged (but loved) look with use!
