CLOTET - Lluis Clotet

Lluis Clotet was born in Barcelona in 1941. He attended the Barcelona Escuela Técnica Superior de Arquitectura, where he received his degree in 1965. From 1961 to 1964 he worked for Federico Correa and Alfonso Milás's Studio; during the same year he set up Studio PER, with Pep Bonet, Cristian Cirici and Oscar Tusquets. He designed a host of schemes with Oscar Tusquets through 1983. He was one of the founders of B.D. Ediciones de Diseño, for which he has created furniture and objects. He received the F.A.D. award for the best interior designs in 1965 and 1972, and for the best building in 1979 and 1980. He collaborated on the 15th Milan Triennale of 1973. He took part in: the Festival of Fine Architecture in Paris in 1978; 'Transformations in Modern Architecture' at New York's MOMA in 1979; the Forum Design in Linz and the Venice Biennale in 1980; 'The House as Image' at the Louisiana Museum of Modern Art in 1980; 'The Presence of the Past' in San Francisco in 1982 and 'Ten New Buildings' at the London ICA in 1983.

Sarria - Alessi, *
Lluis Clotet designed this beautiful Sarria basket as a development of the 'Foix Tray' that he designed for Alessi in 1994.
Clotet was originally inspired by the crumpled effect of a silver paper tray for Foix - but chose a crumpled felt hat for the inspiration for this Sarria basket - which has been cleverly adapted to be produced in highly polished Stainless Steel : which has the advantage of making this product functional (as a fruit bowl or as a bread basket) as it is captivating.

Port Bowl - Alessi
Due to the demand for a larger version of the Sarria basket this bowl was conceived but the designer Lluis Clotet developed a new concept rather than repeating the shape of his existing products.

His inspiration came in a similar vain to Foix Tray (a crumpled paper tray) and Sarria Bowl (a misshapen felt hat. ) Port takes its form from a cheese cloth!
