DAY - Robin Day
DAY - Robin Day Born in High Wycombe in 1915, Robin Day worked for a local furniture manufacturer before training at the Royal College of Art, London graduating in 1938. He and his wife, Lucienne (the renowned textile designer) opened their own design office in 1948 they were to become Britains leading designers during the 1950's. Day won first prize with Clive Latimer for the design of a storage unit at the Museum of Modern Art's 'International Competition for Low-Cost Furniture Design'. In 1949, he was appointed design director at Hille Interational where he designed the injection moulded 'Polyprop' chair in 1962, which as a range, has sold over 14 million chairs worldwide. Day then went on to develop the Polo chair in 1975.
