BRANDT - Marianne Brandt
BRANDT - Marianne Brandt Born in Chemnitz in 1893 Brandt is an important figure in the history of modern design, not simply because she created some of the most beautiful metal ware, but because she did so as a woman. She later explained how difficult it was to enter the male dominated domain of metal working at the Bauhaus and described how the men gave her dull, repetitive work for a considerable amount of time before they accepted her. She eventually became one of the most celebrated designers associated with the Bauhaus - some of her designs are still in production today, manufactured under license by Alessi.
