LANE - Danny LaneLANE - Danny Lane
American artist Danny Lane came to England in 1975 to study with stained glass artist Patrick Reyntiens. Studied Fine Art at Byam Shaw School of Art and Central School of Art and Design as a student of the visionary artist Cecil Collins. At college he experimented and developed his understanding of drawing which continues to be the primary focus of his creative process. Travelling in Europe confirmed an early interest in the relationship between art and architecture. In 1981, inspired by the precedents set within the Applied Arts by 20th century artists such as Isamo Naguchi, Danny established his first London studio and began to develop applied art objects using inexpensive industrial glass. By the mid 80's Lane's understanding of context, direct use of materials, the uniting of contradictory materials and forms in his daring furniture established him as key figure within the international design arena. A number of his designs are produced by Fiam Italia. Alongside the domestic scale works, Danny received numerous commissions for sculpture and architectural works in steel as well as glass.
Recent sculpture projects have been commissioned by: The Victoria & Albert Museum - a 30 metre long glass balustrade; Smith Klein and Beecham - a stone, steel and glass sculpture in their London Headquarters;
Exhibitions: Danny regularly exhibits in museums and galleries in U.K., Italy, Germany, France, Switzerland, Spain, Japan, United States.
